This rather battered view of the High Street in Newent, posted 1918, shows that there were various shops, all now long-gone, interspersed with the houses all the way up the sides of the street. The shop on the left of the shot has a sign on the end advertising Van Houtens Cocoa and what looks like W. Cook on the frontage.
