Texaco Development

13th August '05

On the 13th August 2005 the station was looking rather untidy and had been empty and up for sale for quite a few months awaiting redevelopment.

The site was up for sale with planning for 16 luxury apartments.

Today a crushing device was delivered to the site and the rubble and concrete started to be crushed and dropped into one of the pits where a tank was located.

The low loader blocked Gloucester Road for a short while causing minor congestion.

Yesterday, the crushing machine broke down and one of the hydraulic motors had to be replaced which meant there was a short delay in the crushing.

By this evening, most of the site had been now been leveled off.

Nearly all of the concrete has been crushed and used as a basis for the site leaving only the heaps of top soil and the metal piping and tanks to deal with.

23rd September '05

The site is now leveled and some of the machinery has been removed. This leaves only heaps of soil on the site.

27th October '05

In the last week the soil has been spread over the rubble on the site and wooden pegs placed around the site marking various points.

17th November '05

The site has now been further leveled off and the front of the site fenced off ready for work to start. This does make taking photos rather tricky as can be seen to the right. A new rear fence has been erected.

Concrete blocks have been delivered and further digging has been continuing. Surveying and various additional marker posts have been added.

12th December '05

The building has now started and the foundation walls and the floor hangers have started to have been added ready for concrete to be poured into the space and then for the main walls and structure of the buildings to be added above.

Floor reinforcing for something like a slab floor
(Click for a larger image)

Behind the pallet there is already some pre-fabricated concrete floor reinforcing in place ready for a slab floor and to the right of the shot are some stacked up bits of the reinforcing ready to be installed.

Here the foundations and floor supports can be seen and possibly the membrane to keep the damp out of the floor. On top of these walls, the concrete reinforcing is added and then concrete is poured between them to form the floor.

Here the base for the floors of two buildings can be seen with the various soil pipes and ventilation openings fitted and standing proud of the surface. The building on the left is further advanced than the one on the right.

Here the lower level of the floor can be seen. The soil pipes are at the front and back of the building.

In the last week the scaffold has been put up to allow the building of the walls.

The scaffold towers over the surroundings and possibly the top layer of the scaffold shows the approximate height of the building.

14th January '06

By Wednesday the lower floor had been built, and in the last few days the upper walls have been put up.

The building structure is coming on well and it looks like the roof should soon be added. The second building has not been started yet.

What looks like a third plot has now been excavated and the footings have been started.

9th February '06

The roof trusses are ready to be added to building two (and by the end of the day had been put into place) and the walls are being built up around building one. The base of building three is now pretty much complete as well.

Here we see that:
Building 1
Building one seems to be pretty much externally complete except for rendering and painting.

Building 2
Building two has about half it's external brickwork in place and work continues on that. The roof is nearly complete except for some of the ridge tiles.

Building 3
Building three has shot up this week and will soon be ready to have the roof fitted.
