Cary, Cocks and Roper

Samuel Philpot Brookes had a chemists / apothecaries in 34 and 35 High Street (aka Man of Ross House) from around 1805 after the King's Arms Inn closed. Brookes continued until William Cary Cocks took over the business in around 1830.

Cocks bought the shop in around 1835 upon the death of Brookes. Cocks then split the building and sold 35 High Street to Benjamin Powle who was a printer whilst Cocks continued running 34 High Street as a Chemists. Cary Cocks was joined by Thomas Roper in around 1850.
