Ross-on-Wye and the River
The Wye towards Wilton
These are a couple of views of the River Wye looking down from the Prospect towards Wilton.
Old Photo
A real photo postcard (unknown publisher) titled "Horse Shoe Bend, Ross-on-Wye". This view is looking towards Wilton probably from the Prospect. The river bank can be seen to have been cleared of vegetation. This was found to have greatly increased bank erosion so the banks have been
allowed to become overgrown in recent times to help control this. | |
| A real photo postcard (published by E.T.W Dennis & Sons Ltd) titled "View from the Prospect, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire". This view is looking towards Wilton from the Prospect and was probably taken in the 1960's. |
New Photo
A photo, taken in November 2005, looking towards Wilton from the Prospect looking at a similar part of the bend. There are more trees on the river bank now, and the large trees futher from the river have also changed and many of the very large ones in the old photo have now gone. The use of the land beside the river and in front of the buildings in the bottom left has also changed from a garden to a grass area. Wilton is also much more visable, maybe it is because the houses are lit up differently by the sun or have been repainted or just that there are more now than then.
